It’s Christmas season, time for joy, celebration and of course, presents for a large part of mankind. And since I’ve spent a lot of time here, I’ve decided to make a present for you all. It’s a screensaver that I think goes well with the look of this site.
Screensaver doesn’t really do anything particularly cool, only bounces the words “IslamicAwakening.com” off the four sides of the screen. Background is the same shade of orange used on the site with white crescent moon.
I had to put it on RapidShare since this forum allows only very small message attachments. This one is about 820 KB. Here's the link:
http://rapidshare.com/files/76108671/IA_screensaver.zip.html
Instructions:
1. Unzip
2. Run by double-click
3. Follow the on-screen instructions
You can find more information in the “Read me” file. Please tell me if you run into any problems with the screensaver or installer.

Thank you kindly, a very nice thought; however as a muslim I do not celebrate Christmas so I am unable to accept your christmas gift.
Though of course I believe in Isa (Jesus) alay-Islam, he was indeed a messenger of God, the son of Maryam (Mary), born miraculously of a virgin birth, he was the Masih (Messiah), The word of God, not crucified but raised up and will be resurrected and will kill the anti-Christ - but I do not think Jesus ever instructed his followers to celebrate his birth nor is anyone certain that 25/12 is the actual date.
Don't take offense.
And may Allah (God) guide you.

btw, there is nothing wrong with accepting Christmas gifts, as Ibn Taymiyya points out in Iqtida al-Sirat.
What one cannot accept is slaughtered meat if it is sacrificed for that day. Everything else is ok, iA.

After carefully checking my list of processes before and after installing, I can confirm that it's safe to install guys! :D
Thanks, morbius.

Hey, Thanks Morbius. Nice thoughts and sentiments from you especially about the forum. Although there are other Islamic forums where non Muslims are allowed to contribute.
Abuz Zubair is correct about being allowed to accept Christmas gifts. Last year I was offered some cash which I refused. After checking with a learned brother I changed my opinion and this year I was presented with a book : "The Shock Doctorine" by Naomi Klein. I accepted it. Only problem is that this man who gave me the book asked me last week to hold a palestinian flag at a ceremony where the city council was going to light the christmas tree in the park. I refused. Now he won't talk to me any more.

Thanks, morbius.
And who told you that malware has to start its own process in order to be dangerous? :D
Scanning it with antivirus would also be useless, since almost all AV programs have very low chance of detecting a custom made trojan horse.
The only way you can be sure that this file is safe is because I give you my word that it is safe.
It’s called leap of faith and it’s kind of a Christian thing, it would be hard for you to understand. :)

Nice friend.. haha. I had also some acquaintances who asked me to be part of a demonstration, that is against a popular politician who wants the Qur'an to forbidden and insults Islam, Muslims etc. I also refused or declined, for various reasons, and now he avoids me..
By the way. Great work Iqtida' Sirat al-Mustaqim. I was surprised to find Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah discussing the Christian innovative practice of coloring eggs around Eastern and its tahrim of it for Muslim participants. I never imagined a 'fatwa' about something as this, still done here in our schools! SubhanAllah.

I agree 100%. Leap of faith is indeed only a Christian thing and it has nothing to do with Islam :)
Thanks for the screensaver, anyway!

Someone can do the honours and translate the following/summarise?

a bit off topic, but does the same apply when it's your birthday and someone offers you a gift?

It's best not to ask me, since I am not sure about Birthdays, since it is not a religious or ideological celebration to begin with. Allahu Alam

its at the least imitating the kuffar
Abuz Zubair
13th December 2007, 07:13 PM
It isn't, because this is not something particular to the kuffar. People all around the world from different cultures celebrate birthdays, just like people from all around the world wear suit and tie. Since it has no religious significance, tashabbuh bil-kuffar issue becomes irrelevant.

but akhi, 'eid means something that returns and if we celebrate this celebration every year this becomes a celebration for us doesn't it?
And do roots of a celebration play a factor, because this celebration was foreign to the muslims?

Ibn Taymiyah, while discussing the question of accepting gifts from non-Muslim on their religious holidays, mentions that `Alî b. Abî Tâlib was presented a gift on the Zoroastrian holiday of Nairuz, and he accepted the gift.
A woman once asked `Â’ishah: “Among us are communities of Zoroastrians and they give us gifts on their religious festivals.”
`Â’ishah said to her: “As for what they slaughter on that day, do not eat of it. However, eat of their fruits and vegetables.” [Musannaf Ibn Abî Shaybah (24361)]
The Companion Abû Barzah mentioned that there were Zoroastrians living in his area and they used to give him gifts on Nairuz and Mehrgan. He would instruct his family: “What they give you of fruit you may eat. What else they give you, return it.” [Musannaf Ibn Abî Shaybah (24362)]
After mentioning these instances, Ibn Taymiyah observes [Iqtidâ’ al-Sirât al-Mustaqîm (2/552-553)]: All of this indicates that the fact that a gift is given on the occasion of one of their holidays has no effect on the permissibility of accepting the gift. Indeed, the ruling on accepting their gifts is the same whether or not it is one of their holidays. This is not in any way giving them help in their religious rites. Rather, the question of accepting gifts from the unbelievers who are hostile to us and with those who are under a covenant with us is an independent issue wherein there is disagreement and detailed rulings that we are not discussing right now.
We are allowed to eat the food of the People of the Scripture during their holidays that we receive by way of purchase, a gift, or other means as long as it is not meat of animals that are slaughtered as part of the religious festival. As for the animals slaughtered by the Zoroastrians, it is well known that such meat is unlawful according to the general view.Source: Exchanging Gifts with Non-Muslims on their Holidays (http://www.islamtoday.com/showme2.cfm?cat_id=29&sub_cat_id=806)

you mean Easter akhee? That is the celebration of the Christians related to the "Death/Accension" of Isa 'alayhi as-salaam - according to their beliefs

What give you the idea that we would like to use your Christmas screensaver? Perhaps the greatest present you can give us this Christmas is to solve your own mystery!

I see that Acid has posted in a bunch of my old threads… I am guessing that he is inserting his usual nonsense and/or random insults at my expense.
Dude, give it a rest already. Because of your poor manners I have put you on ignore list about a week ago, vBulletin should have informed you about that. The content of your posts is not shown to me while I browse the forum. Very nice feature for handling irritating people.
But it is actually good that you’ve bumped this thread up since Christmas is coming again and I have made a promise earlier that I’ll make another screensaver to go with new look of IA. I would like some feedback from the members how would they like it to look.
Right now I’m thinking of maybe doing a slide show with some pictures of masjids and various Islamic motifs that one by one line up on the screen one next to another, and then they all fade to white and logo of Islamic Awakening appears.

Was that a threat? lol.. no morbius I am not hurt that you have put me into the ignore list. You still are replying to my posts ofcourse !
Manners ? You are talking about manners? I am surprised that you know the spelling of manners! What manners are you talking about by the way? I am sure that to expose your crude behavior must make me very irritating for you.
Go and make screen savers for us , thats better than you spilling the bucket of non sense here on the forum.

Ok, this time around I’ll try to make it look better than the previous one that was just something I’ve put together in few hours. I’d like people to recommend what pictures they would like to appear in the new screensaver.
Also, I need picture IAbanner.jpg, the logo of IA which you see on top of the forum’s pages. Since it’s embedded with the relative link in the page’s CSS style sheet, I can’t simply save it from my browser. It also would be a good if I could be provided with the layers of the original picture, perhaps I could make move the pieces to form the final image or do something like that.

I'm able to save it. Have you tried right clicking the banner and selecting 'save background as' and it will get saved as JPEG (Im not sure of the difference between JPG and JPEG and I don't have a clue what CSS Sheet means).
Btw, everyone should save the banner: it looks good on desktop, position it in the centre.

The old IE does come in handy once in a while, haven't seen such an option in browsers that I usualy use. Ok, that takes care of it.
And there is no difference between .jpeg and .jpg, just two extensions registered for the same file tipe.
