As Salaam Alaykum Wa Rahmatullah,

does anyone have a copy of the qadiri Creed whihc was sanctioned by Caliph Al Qadir and followed by Caliph Al Qaim and signed by the schoalrs of baghdad like Al qazwini. The Creed attacks not only Mutazilite rationalism when presenting the traditionalist beliefs of sunnis but also refutes the growing Asharite rationalism of that time. I heard there are translations of this creed in french, german and english. If the english oen is available on the net it woudl be good isnahAllah jazakAllahU khayran

Al-I’tiqâd al-Qâdiri (unedited)



It is necessary upon a human being to know that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, is One, who has no partner. 



He does not beget nor is begotten. 



Neither does He have an equal. 



He has not taken a spouse nor a child. 



Nor has He a co-ruler in Sovereignty (al-mulk). 



He is the first, always been. 



And he is last, not ceasing to exist. 



Powerfull about everything. 



Not impotent about a thing. 



When he Intends something He says: “Be and it will be!” 



He is the Self-sufficient about everything. 



Times and ages do not change Him, however times and ages change. He is the Creator of times and ages, the night and the day, the light and darkness, the heavens and earths, and what it contains from the qualities of the creation, the land and sea, and what they contain, and everything else what is living or death. 



Our Lord was One, nothing was with Him nor a place (makân) which encloses Him. 



Then created everything by His Power. And He created the Throne not because of a need for Him(self). He established upon it how He Willed and Intended. Not in a settlement of rest as the creation rests. 



He is in control of the heaven and the earth and in control of what’s in it, and what’s in the land and the sea; there is no one in control but Him nor one who preserves it but Him. 



He provides them, makes them ill and better, makes them dead and brings them alive. 



And the creation - all of it - is weak: the Angels, the Prophets, the Messengers and the creation all of them altogether. 



He is the Al-Powerful by Power. 



The Al-Knowing by Eternal Knowledge, not growing. 



And He is the Al-Hearing by Hearing. 



The Al-Seeing by Seeing. 



He Knows their qualities from Himself. 



None of His creation knows their nature. 



Speaking by Speech, not by created organs such as the organs of the creatures. 



He is not described but by what He described Himself with, or what He has been described with by His Prophet, the peace upon him. 



Every Attribute by which He described Himself with, or by which He is described by His Messenger, than it is an Attribute in reality not figuratively. 



And one should know that the Speech of Allah, the Exalted, is uncreated. He Spoke a direct Word, and He revealed it upon His Messenger – may Allah grant him peace – through the tongue of Gabriel. after Gabriel heard it from Him. So Gabriel recited it to Muhammad, peace be upon him, and Muhammad, peace be upon him, recited it to his Companions, and his Companions recited it to the community. 



And it did not became created because of the [repeted] recitation of the creatures, for it is the very Speech itself by which Allah Spoke with. 



It is uncreated therefore in whatever condition: recited, memorized, written and heard. 



Whoever says it is created in any condition, then he is a unbeliever; his blood is permitted should he refuse to repent from it. 



And one should know that faith is speech, action and intention. Speech is by mouth, action is by the members and limbs, and the belief in it. 



It increases and decreases. Increase by obedience, and it decrease by disobedience. 



It is made of parts and divisions. The highest part of it is <that />and the lowest is relieving something from the street. And shame is a division from the divisions of faith. And patience is from faith, at the same level as what the head is for the body..*******

[Insha'Allah, Abuz Zubair or others could correct some of it.. but this part contains the gist of al-Tawhid and the refutation of the Mu'awwilah and others]

Since I'me very busy, I shall Insha' Allah finish it at a later stadium and edit it in some pdf-file with footnotes. I would appreciate any correction, amendation etc. What's important to be beware off, is that this creed became the 'offical' state credo on which major scholars were united. The Arabic file mentions this too. In it is clearly stated:

It is necessary upon a human being to know that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, is One, who has no partner.



This is against the Ahl al-Kalâm, be they: Mu'tazilites, Karramites or Asharites. It states that the wâjib thing is: Lâ ilaha illa'llâh. What is not obligatory is to exercise some kind of kalâmi reasoning to affirm Allah, the Exalted.



In it is also stated, contrary to the Asha'irah:

Our Lord was One, nothing was with Him nor a place (makân) which encloses Him. 



Then created everything by His Power. And He created the Throne not because of a need for Him(self). He established upon it how He Willed and Intended. Not in a settlement of rest as the creation rests.



The saying 'nothing was with Him nor a makân' is not a denial of Allah's Establishing over the Throne - as it is in the case with the Jahmites from the Mu'tazilah and the Ash'ariyyah. Their denial of Him on a makân is in fact a denial of Istiwa'. He said therefore explicitly: 'nor a makân which encloses Him', i.e. not something that is created and that is greater than Him. He also added after it: 'He Established upon it' in order to take away the wind off their sailes. It is just like one says: 'He made Istawla over His creation, ánd Istawa over the Throne' - so to*******oppose that Allah did not Rise upon the Throne.



And therein is stated,

This important principle is not followed by the Ash'arites, espec. the later-day ones who describe Him by what are called the attributes of denial, as initiated by Jahm b. Safwan and his likes.



Every Attribute by which He described Himself with, or by which He is described by His Messenger, than it is an Attribute in reality not figuratively.



This is against all those who claim that the Attributes are Majâzi like, i.e. not really existent. It is the strongest statements against the Ash'arites and their ilk.



And there is stated:

This contains many that refutes the Asha'irah. The most important element is the fact of recitation that proceeded from Gabriel to Muhammad, peace upon them. Whatever its nature of transmission, it always stays the Speech of Allah, the Exalted. It does not cease to be called Speech of Allah, not a 'expression' or 'report'.



There are many more things in it.. I hope that it will benefit some.

Here is an excerpt from al-Qadir's biography from Encyclopaedia of Islam:

Al-Qadir's main preoccupation was the struggle against any doctrines deemed pernicious and especially those which constituted a danger to the caliphate. From 408/1017 he demanded that the Hanafi jurisconsults who had shown some sympathy with Mu'tazilism make an act of penitence; at the same time he forbade the teaching of Mu'tazili and Shi'i doctrines. Then, in 409/1018, he had a reading given in the palace of the text called al-risala al-Qadiriyya , a profession of faith defining the official doctrine which also conformed to the ideas of the Men of Old (i.e. the Salaf) (Ibn al- Jawzi, Muntazam, viii, 109; A. Mez, Renaissance, 198-201; G. Makdisi, Ibn 'Aqil, 299 ff.). Inspired by Hanbalite ideas, this text condemned not only Shi'ism in all its forms but also Mu'tazilism and even Ash'arism, which was denounced for taking a stance that was a dangerous compromise with Mu'tazilism, and also put forward the veneration of the Companions as a genuine obligation.
