As-salamu’alaykum,

Eid Mubarak.

Bismallah,

Im reading Ar-rahman. Iyhat 6…… “and the Najm…..”

Najm is translated as “herbs or stars.”

Since herbs are so much unlike stars this is blowing my mind for now.
Can anyone explain the meaning insha’allah?

Jazakallah.

Salam.

Wa Alaykum As Salam

The word najm has two meanings. It can mean star or herb depending on the context in which it is used. In the ayat that you quoted it could mean herb or star since both prostrate to Allah.

In Surah Ar Rajm
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). (An-Najm 53:1) the meaning is Star. You can deduce that from the context . A herb does not go down (or vanish.) That type of action is that of a star.

As-salamu'alaykum,

I think I get it now. The emphasis is on the fact that these yeld, bow to Allah (swt).

Maybe Allah's choice of words, (swt) sometimes is to lock it up make the Qur'an impossble to change but also to give the meanning?

Do you think so?

jazakallah for your response Bro

Assalamo Alaikum,

In Surat Al hajj Ayah 18, An Najoom have been mentioned alongwith Qamar and there it means Stars.

Here in Ar Rehman {55:06} singular Najm has been used alongwith Shajar {tree}. Najm is not tree but signifies sprouts from the roots; and refers to a kind of plant/shrub/grass. Star and Shajr do not go together therefore in 55:06 it is more appropriate to translate like "shrubs/plants/grasses and trees". Thanks.
