As salaam 'alaikum

I pray you are all well

My nephew has done something to my pc and now I’m getting all these pop ups for bingo, online games, dating etc.

The page just opens up while I'm in the middle of some work

I have a pop up blocker running but it doesn’t seem to stop them

Each page has the word "CiD:" written in front of it followed by the web address

eg. CiD: partybingo.com

My Norton anti virus subscription has recently run out so I’m not sure if that might be linked with the problem

Please help

forget about norton, its ram intensive and not that good, use this instead for your antivirus software

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/downloads-products/us/frt/0?prd=aff

its called avg, its free and very good, once installed it will do a scan of your computer and kill off all the trojans that are causing these pop ups..

wa’alaikum as-salaam,

As well as the above, you may want to also download the Yahoo toolbar which contains a pop-up blocker and an anti-spy feature, in addition to providing quick access to Yahoo Mail/search engine etc.

if your using internet explorer i would recommend using mozilla firefox instead as it is better IMO and the pop up blocker is definately better

mines is expired too...but occaisionally it pops up and asks me to renew it..though it still does a scan...would u recommend me completely un-install norton and down load something for free--what are some good free anti virus/pop up blocker programs?

AVG antivirus is free and quite good.
For your problem you should try using programs such as Spybot S&D or HijackThis.

Magoo gave you a good advice, change your browser.

Go to system tools, where I can usually restore my PC settings back a few days if there are any problems I am unable to fix.

It's not enough just to have them running. Update them, than scan the system.

I think the problem has gone away alhamdulilaahDid you manage to work out what caused it, so as to avoid it in future?

I think I didnt update both programs (Avg and spybot-sd)

Its says on there updates must be done once a week
so I will try to remember to do that inshaa Allaah

I cant think what else it could be
