Scotland Yard Officers Threaten to SendMuslim Youths to GuantanamoBay

Since the first week of May 2004, two officersfrom Scotland Yard's Anti-Terrorist Branch have been visiting and makingtelephone calls to a number of Muslim youths in the SouthLondon area. The two officers, namely Detective Sergeant Haddonand Detective Sergeant Stephenson, have been making 'enquiries' in relation toother members of their respective Muslim communities.

During these 'enquiry' visits, the youths havebeen shown photographs and asked to provide information about other members oftheir communities and mosques. In one particular incident, when the youthsconcerned refused to speak to the two officers in the absence of a solicitor, they were threatened with the words, "People who do not cooperate with us, we send toGuantanamo Bay."

Due to the track record of the Anti-TerroristBranch against the Muslim community, these 'enquiries' have thus far been meetinga brick wall. Many of those Muslims visited or called have been telling theofficers that they are aware of the violence, intimidation, humiliation andterror being inflicted against the Muslim community by the Police, so if thepurpose of their visit is to 'help them with their enquiries' and fishingexpeditions, then they are not interested in speaking to them.

The Muslim community is reminded to act upon thelegal advice given by Arani & Co Solicitors, one of the UK's leadingexperts on terrorism issues, as given in the Know Your Rights 1 (http://www.stoppoliceterror.com/download/knowyourrights1.pdf)leaflet on Stoppoliceterror.com:

Six Point Action Plan if Approached byAnti-Terrorist Police:

1. Do NOT be misled by officers who state thatthey need you to assist them

2. Do NOT talk to them regarding any matter

3. TAKE the officers' names and telephonenumbers

4. STATE to officer(s) that you need to seeklegal advice

5. STATE to the officer(s) that your solicitorwill contact them

6. Do NOT discuss any matters with them, walkaway once you have taken the officers' names and numbers

It is particularly important not to be misled byofficers who will tell you, "We know everything anyway, so you may as welltell us the truth." Likewise, it is particularly important to tell yourfamily members not to let the Police officers into your house under anycircumstances. Do not be intimidated by either implicit or explicit threatsmade by the Police officers.

The message that should go out to theAnti-Terrorist Police is: "Muslims, as a community, refuse to be intimidated by you so takeyour threats and go home. We are not interesting in cooperating with your Waragainst Muslims."
