Ok akhi, so you can judge his level of Ilm and declare him a Shaykh?

Don't worry ibn Shaykh, I have a response (unlike Abu Muwahid, who never told me why az-Zahrani is a "shaykh"). Abu Eesa is my respected elder and a student of knowledge, hence I call him this out of respect for his status and position. That satisfy you Hamza? Now, perhaps you can forget about me and my word usage, and benefit from the lectures.

The brother does not refer to himself as a Shaykh and in fact he has made it quite clear on various occasions. He is a very down to earth person.

And what, pray tell, did Abu Eesa say about Abu Qatada that upset you so?

He didnt use the most warm and fuzzy words in descriping him. The series is excellent probably one of the only decent things on Islam channel. Plus he studied with one of the teachers I have studied with :).

Akh abu_ibrahim, Abu Isa (from Slough) is detainee OO in Belmarsh, going through Hell. It has been said that he has recanted some of his former views. No one deserves this treatment, no matter what their views.

whoever matches the manhaj of some of the moderators here will be called shaykh regardless the level of knowledge , hence more knowledgeable people that differs in manhaj will have their "sheikhood" questioned and they will make a big fuss of it.

i dont think belmarsh is a hotel, must be terrible from what i heard from brothers but do not call it Hell please even though i do not think that you are using the term to describe it with the Hell of the Hereafter, you merely use the terms that the non muslims use wa Allahu A'lam, i give you that excuse inshAllah.
we ask Allah swt to free all our prisoners as we seems to be unable rasie a finger for them to be freed, and othe other hand everyone seems to do whatever they can when a kafir british is imprisoned in some muslim land, strange what walaa some of us display.
regards Abu E'sa, i dont know what views the retracted but it would be interesting to know, is he still consider himself Amir Al Mumineen, does he still hold those extreme takferee views that made him declare taliban disbelievers after declaring the majority of the Ummah as non belivers and hence his group took the name they took. i know that one of his leaders hold or may still be of the opinion that hasheesh, weed, is halal. they used it where they were living in the border regions of pakistan-afghanistan.
there are a lot of questions about this Abu E'sa and in his case, even though it seems harsh for some, i do ask Allah swt to guide him first and foremost as his guidance is more dear to me than he being freed from prison. to be tortured or even die in prison upon guidance is more worth than be in freedom and misguided

So his views on Abu Qatada invalidate his ilm? Ackhi to me this is part of being a Hizb you align yourself with everyone that your 'hero' aligns himself with and declare bara for whoever he does. Futhermore you hate anyone who critises him. Whatever he said about Abu Qatada (and Allaahu Alaam I am not aware of what he said) surely doesn't invalidate his ilm or his knowledge. This is to me the most just stance towards people.

Abu Eesa should have kept his trap shut and treated his bout of verbal diarrhoea when a fellow Muslim is in a difficult situation being tried.

u sure bro?
At that time, Abu Qatada was surrounded by many Muslims who saw him as a sincere figurehead of the authentic struggles of the Chechens and Bosnians after their lands and people had been massacred by neighbouring countries. Unfortunately, this just proved to be a cover for his own extremism and many innocent well-meaning Muslims were sucked in to his trap, despite the efforts of the scholars at the time such as Shaykh Suhaib Hasan, Shaykh Salah of al-Muntada al-Islami and Shaykh Kehlan. It was not long before Abu Qatada’s true colours were revealed and his deviation, although not as extreme as some of the other fringe movements at the time such as the Khalifah movement started by a group of Arab rebels in Afghanistan, became clear.
Abu Qatada and his ilk have continued unabated over the last decade, leading to collaborations and off-shoots initially with Hizb-ut-Tahrir, then al-Muhajiroun and then whatever crackpot splinter-group that would form and lead to the development of young maniacs who are trying to pass off today as advisors and reformists.
I would find that insulting... although i take your point - its not as bad as the Agents from Coward-Manhaj.com.

Not at all bro, i actually like AE. He was rightly respected by BM who called him shaykh out of respect. Is it too much to ask for this right to be extended to Zahrani? Allahualam. That was the point i am trying to make... in a not so precise way.

And this is the problem with giving lofty titles nowadays. We label those whom we like with titles they may not deserve, and deprive others of it due to our dislike, even if they are liked by others.
Titles shouldn't depend on one's likeness of someone, but the truth. If a person is a scholar he should be called a Shaykh, whether one likes him or not. If a person isn't a Shaykh, he shouldn't be called a Shaykh, no matter how much we love him, for all the reasons I have mentioned previously.

Im not talking about inprisoned Im talking about various people being tested in various ways, such as the Ulema in difficult situations. You claim he should respect and care yet you yourself don't, such a shallow pool of respect and values.
Where you not the one who posted that video about Uthaymeen and called the lajna useless? Such respect you have

And they wern't been tested when they were in saudi for their deen?

But thats the whole point you see someone who is well known inprison and its such a terrible terrible tragedy and his flesh is not halal to eat. Yet every other Alim tested in various ways his flesh is tasty and it is encouraged to mock them and call them 'donkeys'.
Frankly I don't know how you dare call someone like Uthaymeen a donkey.
