Asalam mu alaikum wr wb. After completeting the fantasic book by M.Zubayr Siddiqi on "Hadith Literature", I turned to the works he had to used to complie his master piece. I highlighted the books of interest. One of them that caught my attention was "Love theory in early Hanablite Islam." By Bell, R.
I made a search for this book and managed to find this http://books.google.co.uk/books?hl=en&lr=&id=CP6O3wkivMIC&oi=fnd&pg=PP13&dq=Bell,+R.+Love+theory+in+Early+Hanbalite+Islam&ots=sH_y8sBZ8b&sig=mqmjv-PD0V7i_tB3krBept9Ptao#PPP1,M1
However the title of this book is "Love theory in Late Hanablite Islam" so, im wondering if this is the same book I was orginally looking for.
The link is a short extract of the orginal book. If anyone posses the book in physical copy please do put some info regarding it.
Just to return back to M.Zubayr's book formentioned. It truelly is a master piece. The book is a small thesis on the history and complitations of Ahadith. I had by chance purchased this book, but it has turned out to be one of those hidden gems.
I have flicked through Azami's great work on a similar topic while, this book seems to have much more warmth and character to it. Azami's work is a direct refutation of a refutation. I think due to this; the average reader can feel swamped down in the complexity of the matter.
I would definatley advise students of hadith and general tulaab to have a read of it. I certainly benefitted however, that is maybe because im still a novice in my studies.
