View Full Version : A possible shut down?

As salaam 'alaikum

Have the forum moderators or admin ever considered having a 24hr shut down session, just to calm down the situation on the main forum, it seems to be continuous insults, back biting, cursing and every other thing shaytaan is pleased with.

The forum is turning in to a war zone

I think its time for a time out

We love war!

On a serious note... some people deserve to be insulted. Others don't. But if one wrongly insults a person it usually works against him, anyway.

We are living in a real world. And the way forward is to face the music.

But after all, this is only my humble opinion.

This isn't directed at anyone in particular, but my general feeling of this forum is that some of the sisters are far too sensitive and some of the brothers are far too hyper!

Jazaak Allaahu khairan for your fast reponse

I guess you are right

running away will not solve it, the problem will still be there 24hrs later

Well, I would not tolerate it.. but that's me :D

I'm happy in someway that elsewhere - hihi - it is tolerated. In that case, people can't blame me ;)

Abuz Zubair & co, good luck.. its always difficult to consider people's wishes and judge between.

Hey, I can be very sensitive too. Espec. when people insult or are very anti-islamic.

But in some instances, you have to tolerate so you can either explain and counter it, or you tolerate so others can see people's lost credibility..

Abuz Zubair
7th February 2008, 10:45 PM
Exactly... someone has to tolerate it all... Most of us if we were to go to other forums we would be banned from posting and I think the censorship itself contributes to more hostility.

Here, some find others to be completely at odds with them, but they do eventually find common grounds in various issues. And after a while they begin to like each other. Many have crossed over to the opposite side and changed their perception on their opponents...

But it needs a strong heart to be able to bear all of this. al-hamdulillah, the good thing about the forums is that you cannot kill each other!

On a serious note... some people deserve to be insulted.

Absolutely, why should people be allowed to make comments like the one below? They should then face the music. Some people only understand their own language...

.dressing up as a sister just like these Jihadists do when they wear niqab to flee from battle....

I understand you, sister.

It is very annoying and unpleasant to see the things you refer to. It is just that we sometime have to swallow it.

No one is perfect, neither this forum. I'm glad however that you point to it out, cause I and many more I guess desire that too even though we do not [in public].

A good thing would be, and I do that sometimes, is to inform a participant in private (thru pm) of a thing seen that is bad. If moderators would do that more often, it would change - I believe - the habitual way of posting of some. I think this is more effective, i.e. this individual advice approach then shutting down every thing.

So maybe the mods could have some regard for that?

It does happen with respect to issues where the mods must intervene and edit posts. Out of courtesy, they try to inform the person why their post was edited and advise them not to repeat.

However, it does not happen (and perhaps cannot happen) each time someone gets angry, is it would be too much for the mods to PM the users in question and tell them to calm down.

BTW, the mods are only here to make sure that ppl do not go over board and start swearing, etc... otherwise, everyone is equal on the forums. So we should never hesitate to PM each other if we see inappropriate behaviour from anyone of us. (and I think to an extent, this happens as well)

This is a good idea and I think it would work as no one likes to be advised publicly, it just fuels more hatred

the only thing is being a sister I don’t really feel comfortable sending private messages to brothers to advise them when they fall short (if I can aviod it I will)

one option around this is to report the post a person makes and then if it’s a brother the brothers moderator advises them (privately) and if it’s a sister, the sister moderator does the same.

By the way who are the moderators of this forum?

I don't think that'll do much. Plus they'll have 24 hrs to gather up all their thoughts and energy then their back at it.

this forum tought me to be more tough and become more immune to insults, which I believe is a good thing, because you will get people insulting and mocking you not only on the internet but also in real life, and one has to learn to be strong and patient in dawah, if one is too sensitive, it can be harmful to his\her dawah, and shaytan might use that to stop them from continuing their dawah path.

just my opinion.
