    Question discussion on bidah hassana


    Not sure if this is correct section seems so to me.

    In a discussion with someone who celebrates the prophet saw birthday the following was forwarded to me:

    "Abdullah ibn ^Umar said that in the prayer in the tashahhud one says:

    He said, I heard the Prophet sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam telling us to say:

    He then said:

    Which means: I added to that. Hence, he used to tell the people that I added that; I inserted something into the prayer which the Prophet sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam did not do. In other words, he was saying: I did not hear that from the Prophet sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam and no one told me that the Prophet sallallahu ^alayhi wa sallam did that, but still he said, I added that. This is a saheeh narration and is narrated by Abu Dawud. What ^Abdullah ibn ^Umar did was permissible because his addition is something that complies with the prayer. It is praising Allah, it is an additional dhikr and it does not contradict the original thing which is said in the prayer. Hence, ^Abdullah ibn ^Umar used to say, I am the one who added that. No one amongst the companions or Salaf said, ^Abdullah ibn ^Umar innovated something bad in relation to the religion and therefore he is a mubtadi^"

    Does anyone know the context of this narration did the prophet saw approve this in his (saw ) lifetime??

    Bismillah ...

    These are some very incoherent claims akhee. In fact this addition was reported as taught by the Messenger of Allah, from the way of Abu Musa -May Allah be pleased with him- as was narrated by al-Nasa'ei -Rahimahu Allah- and authenticated by Shaykh Al-Albani, and Aisha [May Allah be pleased with her] narrates it as a version of the Tashahud as in the Muwata of Imam Malik.

    The full narration

    So from where did he come up with the assumption that Ibn Umar [May Allah be pleased with him] introduced it from his own self? I ask Allah that he does not make us from among those who follow their whims and desires.

    On top of this, how he tries to relate this to the Mawlid is really weak and shows that he should start by learning the basics of the religion of Allah before talking about it and getting into discussions that will not benefit him in his Deen.

    Wa alaykom salam,

    I had 'bidah hasana' explained to me a few years ago. Here's the example I was given;

    When Rasoolallah SAW made hijrah to Medina everybody wanted to put him up in their house as a guest. So to solve the dilemma, He (SAW) dismounted from his camel & decided to let his camel chose the lodgings. This would be done by letting his camel wander and whose ever house it chose to rest at would be the house he would stay in overnight.

    So the camel was unhitched and off it wandered down the street until it stopped at a sahabah's house. A cheer went up and everyone was happy but.......

    ...... the camel arose again and moved on down the street and eventually stopped and settled in front of another's house and so that sahabah had the honor of accommodating Rasaalallah SAW on his first night in town.

    This (last paragraph) exclaimed the sufi/ihkwaani, was true 'bidah hasana'. It was early days in the deen for me and I'd never come across that reasoning before so I just left with my head still spinning.
