Default Ibn tammiyah repented from takfir in his last days?

"I saw some words from al-‘Ashari which amazed me, and it’s established, al-Bayhaqi narrated it, I heard Aba Hazim al-‘Abdawi, I heard Zahir bin Ahmed as-Sarakhsi say, “when the time of death came close to Abi al-Hasan al-‘Ashari in my house in Baghdad, he called me, so I went to him, then he said, “Be my witness that I don’t do takfir of anyone from the people of Qibla, for everyone points (worships) towards one God, and all of this is differences in expression (all of the debates).” I (Imam ad-Dhahabi) said, “this is what I take (believe in), and likewise (is the case with) our Shaykh Ibn Taymiyya. in his last days he would say, “I don’t do takfir of anyone from the Ummah, and he said, “The Prophet, peace be upon him said, “Only a mu’min is mindful (preserves) of Wudu’.”, so whoever clings to the prayers with Wudu’ is a Muslim.”

Can anyone give me the exact reference for the above^?

    Asalaamu Alaikum,

This isn't an exact reference, but it might be helpful to you (this is someone elses post, just pasting it here) -

it is reported that he took back his takfir, as Imam Dhahabi says under the bio of Imam Abul Hasan al-'Ashari:

    From Siyar

Shaykh Hamza Yusuf mentions it as well, though i don't know exactly where he does, since he jumps around alot, Intellectual Foundation of Islamic Civilization 1/10 - YouTube

^ It's worth listening, he touches on shaykh Albani, Salafis, Muhammed Abduh, Ibn Sina, the Majlis al-Ulema, the Khutbah being in arabic, etc., listen to all of the parts.

    Bismillah ...

The words "repented from takfir" in quite incorrect, since there is nothing to indicate a change in the Shaykh's belief, or that he was a Takfeeri then repented. As for what you asked, here is the reference from the Siyar 15/88:

This had already established by Shaykh Al-Islam -Rahimahu Allah- and he said something similar in al-Aqeedah al-Wasitiya, so it is not something he arrived to at the time of his death. He said:

His student Ibn Abdul Hadi -Rahimahu Allah- discusses how Ibn Taymiyah was during his life, even with those who issued Fatwas that he -Rahimahu Allah- should be executed:

Ibn al-Qayim -Rahimahu Allah- also mentions another incident of how he was during his life with his bitter enemies, those who harmed him more than anyone else, he said:

and he -Rahimahu Allah- himself says in his Fatawa 3/246, about those who have declared him to be a Kaffir or a Fasiq:

So assuming that what is meant by Imam Al-Dhahabi's quote is that Ibn Taymiyah -Rahimahu Allah- at the end of his life he did not see that the one who insults Allah or His Messenger or says that the Quran has been corrupt is a Kaffir (which the Scholars of Islam are in agreement on), just because he prays with a wudu, is way off and is quite incorrect.

Similarly, making the Shaykh to be a Takfeeri who repented at the end of his life is quite far fetched and couldn't be further from the truth, and the above quotes are just a sample that show how he -Rahimahu Allah- was during his Life.

    And Allah knows best
