    Kellers appraisal of deviants

    Bismillah ar Rahman Ar Raheem

Alhamdulilah wa salatul wa salam ala rasuhullah

    As salaamu alaykum

brothers and sisters ive been reading Dispraise of al hawwa by Dr. salih (the first chapters dealing with a work by ibnul qayyim rahimullah) whereas the rest of the book exposes sufiyah beliefs from some of the books that nuh ha mim keller praised in his book reliance of the traveler.

What im about to post is from the book and my intention is to show that even those who Nuh ha mim keller praised as sufis who follow quran and sunnah the reader will see that EVEN these individuals that claimed to call to the quran and sunnah were deviants.

Nuh ha mim keller in his reliance has a section (page 789) on WOULD BE SUFIS. He basically shows that there are sufis who do not follow quran and sunnah and basically sufism is free from them.

He then qouted Abdul Kareem Al-Jeeli

    Who says

"...I have traveled to the remotest cities and dealt with all types of people, but never has my eye seen, nor ear heard of , nor there any uglier or farther from the presence of Allaah than a certain group who pretend they are accomplished sufis, claiming for themselves a lineal spiritual tradition from the perfected ones and appearing in their guides, while they do not believe in Allaah, His messengers, or the Last day, and do not comply with the responsibilities of the Sacred Law, depicting the states of the prophets and their messages in a manner that no one with a particle of faith in his heart can accept, let alone someone who has reached the level of those to whom the unseen is disclosed and who have gnostic insight,. We have seen a great number of their luminaries in cities in azerbajjaan, shirwaan, jilaan, and khurasaan, may Allaah curse them all."

So this is an individual that basically nuh ha mim keller uses to show that there are sufis who are staunch upon the sunnah and are against the bidaah of astray groups. Yet lets examine what dr. salih pulls out of this narration and then after that we will look at some of the words of this 'sunnah following sufi'

(from dispraise of al hawwa page 114 dr. salih states in reply to this)

First: This is a plain statement from a 'principle' sufi that there are members of the sufi orders to 'whom the unseen is disclosed"!!! A reminder that Allaah said on the tongue of the Most Honourable Messenger salalahu alayhi wa salam

"Say (O muhammad salalahu alayhi wa salam) "I posses no power of benefit or hurt to myself except as Allaah will. If i had the knowledge of the Ghayb, I should have secured for myself an abundance of wealth, and no evil should have touched me. I am but a warner, and a bringer of glad tidings unto people who believe" (7:188)

The so-called 'states' of th esufis contrast with the state of the prophets regarding the belief in al-ghayb and its disclosure! In fact Al-Jeeli's belief regarding the prophets in general and prophet muhammad salalahu alayhi wa salam, and the last day is stated 'in a manner that no one with a particle of faith in his heart can accept" In his book Al-Insaan Al-Kaamil (The Perfect Man,) [Like with some of ibn arabi's works, Al-jeeli claimed that Allaah commanded him to expose this book of kufr and heresy: Al-Insaan Al-Kaamil, 1:6]

he interpreted the saying of Allaah:

"Say (O muhammad salalahu alayhi wa salam): Huwa (He) is Allaah, (the) One,"
    as:

"Say (O muhammad salalahu alayhi wa salam) that huwa i.e man (Allaahu ahad) with the demonstrative letter (ha) in huwa refers to the subject of Say and that is you (ie muhammad salalahu alayhi wa salam)..." Accordingly this will read: "Say (O muhammad salalahu alayhi wa salam) Huwa (you) are Allaah, the One" (Al-Insaan Al-Kaamil, 1:31. See Al-Fikr As-Sufi pp243-245)

This is the philosophy of Al-Jeeli's "Perfect Man" explicitly expressed in the title of chapter sixty of the same book:

[Regarding Al-Insaan Al-kaamil and that he is muhammad salalahu alayhi wa salam and that he corresponds to both, the truth and Creation: "Know may Allaah guard and protect you, that Al-Insaan Al-Kaamil (the perfect man) is the Qutub (the axis) around which the spheres of existence from beginning to end revolves. And he is one since the being of existence and forever and ever. Furthermore, he takes on various forms and appears in churches... his original name which belongs to him is muhammad...I met him while he was in the image of my sheikh sharaf-ud-deen Ismaa'eel Al-Jhubratee... the secret behind this matter is him being able to take the form of every image.... don't you see him when he appeared in the image of ash shiblee (radiallahu anhu and this radiallahu anhu is from HIS WORDS) he (ash shiblee) said to his disciple, "I bear witness that I am Allaah's Messenger." The disciple was a man of kashf, and thus he was able to recognize him; he said, "I bear witness that you are Allaah's Messenger..."]

He also said: "And know that Al-Insaan Al-Kaamil by himself corresponds to all of the existing realities. (Al-Insaan Al Kaamil 2:73 (see Al-Fikr As-Sufi p247 and kashf p266)

End of the words. So note brothers and sisters that Al Jeeli is considered basically as a good sufi and not one of the astray sufis yet these statements of his speak in contrast to what nuh ha mim keller qouted him in his reliance. Can we really trust reliance of the traveler? Can we really trust a sufi who says to us that there are Sufis who follow quran and sunnah yet they read into the works of sufi sheikhs like this? I let you all to decide.

    wasalaam

Pages 98 of dispraise of al hawwa by dr. salih as salih

    D) An Innovated Skhaathili Invocation

There is a sufi invocation which represents an intergral part of nuh ha mim keller's shaathili order. The sufis gave it their special care and wrote some commentaries about it. It is called Salaat Ibn Basheesh (Abdus Salam ibn Masheesh (or basheesh) ibn Abee bakr, a sufi who used to live in one of the mountian caves in moroco. He died in 622/1225. Abul Hasan ash shaathili is one of his disciples)

"O Allaah! Have your salaat on the one from whom the secrets were split open and the lights were broke...Throw me into the sea of Al-Ahadiyyah,(The ahadiyyah in the mystic terminology is the absolute thaat free from the names and attributes or any of their effects. See abee khazzaam's Mu'jam al-Al faath as sufiyyah p39 and p134. ) and lift me from the mud of tawheed, and drown me in the essence of the sea of Al-Wahdah (unity)... (In Annafha Al-Aliyya fee Awraad ash-Shaathiliyyah p16 Al-Maktabah aslh slha'biyyah, beirut lebanon, See also Dalaa'il Al-Khairaat, p233 by muhammad bin suleimaan al-Jazwali, a reference book known to many sufis, if not all. Qouted in kashf p141, 248-249 and p 256)

Alhamdulilah wa salatul wa salam ala rasoolullah

Dispraise of al hawwa prepaired by dr. salih as salih page 124

Muhammad Ameen Al-Kurdi said: "Some of the sheikhs (i.e. from the sufis) said, 'Allaah assigns to the grave of the Waliy (sufi saint) an angel to carry out the requests (i.e. of those who call upon the dead). Sometimes the waliy gets out from his grave and fulfills the needs by himself." (An-Naqshbandiyyah p55 qouting Tanweer Al-Quloob p534)

(Brothers and sisters as reminder i qoute foonote 287 on page 119 of the book where dr. salih points out Muhammad ameen al-Kurdi "was among the greatest naqshbandi masters of the last century" as nuh ha mim keller described him in his Reliance (x254 p1076)

    Continuing from page 124

The above statements of shirk (and others below) by al-kurdi are found in his book Tanweer Al-Quloob Fee mu'aamalat Allaam Al-Ghuyoob (also in his other book Al-Mawaahib as-Sarmadiyyah.) The translation of the meanin gof the book's title as nuh ha mim keller puts it is "The enlightenment of hearts: on one's dealing with the Knower of the Unseen." He also added that al-kurdi "studied sacred law and other subjects at al-azhar, an education he turned to good account in his Tanwir al-quloob fi mu'amala Allaam al-Ghuyoub"

Comment: Shirk is made an enlightenment to the heart! We seek refuge with Allaah from the ways of deviation.

    5. Muhammad al-Kurdi outlines some of the manners describing the relationship between the mureed and the sufi sheikh:

    a) The mureed should serve the sheikhs physically and with his wealth and "Must not disapprove their deeds, because the one who manifest disapproval of their deeds would not be safe (An Naqshbandiyyah p82 from al-mawaahib as-Sarmadiyyah p79)

He should not object to what the sheikh does even if it appears to be haraam (forbidden). (ibid p83 from Tanweer Al-QUloob p529)

He must not say, "Why did you do such a thing? Because the one who says to his sheikh, "why?" would never succeed, for a situation may arise from the sheikh which would be blameworthy from the outward but inwardly it is praiseworthy. Then he said in a poem:

"And be with him (the sufi sheikh) like the dead before the washer (i.e. the one who washes the dead person prior to burial)... (ibid p83, from Tanweer Al-Quloob p479 and pg 529)

    b) Part of the manners of the mureed in his relationship towards his sufi master is that, "He should nto marry his master's divorcee or a woman whom his master was inclined towards marrying her." (ibid p86 from Tanweer Al-Quloob p529 Comment: Is this tanweer (enlightenment)?

The masters want to be treated like the special status of the Prophet salalahu alayhi wa salam with respect to his wives and which was decreed by Allaah ta ala:

"And it is not (right) for you that you should annoy Allaah's Messenger, nor that you should ever marry his wives after him (his death). Verily! That shall be an enormity in Allaah's Sight. (Quraan soorat al ahzaab 33:53)

    c) Seeking a sheikh is the same as seeking Allaah ta ala (then he cites the following ayah as evidence):

The translation of the meaning of the aayah is : "Seek Al-Waseelaah (the means of approach) to Him."

Al-Kurdi's understanding of Al-Waseelah is, "The company, then the tareeq (way): He who has no sheikh his sheikh is shaytaan..." (A similar statement is related to Ahmad al-Rifaa'ee the master of at tareeqah ar rifaaiyyah. He added: "Whoever remembers Allaah (through thikr) without a sheikh, he neither attains allaah or his prophet; nor his sheikh" (See Kashf p321 qouting from Qilaadat al-Jawaahir fee Thikr Al-Ghawth Al-Rifaaee wa Atbaa'ahu Al-Akaabir, by muhammad ibn al-Hudaa afandee al-Rifaaee Al-Khaalidee Al-Saiyaadee p177 1st edition 1400/1980 beirut, lebanon)

He further said: "The sheikh is sought and intended, he is like the ka'bah which they make sujood towards it, (yet) the sujood is to Allaah, and such is the sheikh (i.e. with respect to his mureed)." (An Naqshbandiyyah p91 qouting al mawaahib as - sarmadiyyah p313 and al-anweer al qudsiyyah p525)

    Bismillah ar rahman ar raheem

Dispraise of al hawwa prepaired by dr. salih as salih page 88-89

What is the secret behind the markets in initiating the sufi disciple?

Ibn Ajeebah said, "This is what we encountered our sheikhs doing: They order the faqeer to go into Khalwah (a spiritual retreat widespread amongst the sufi orders in which they go into voluntary hunger, silence, vigil, meditation, seclusion, innovated Sufi Thikr (ie. repeating the Majestic Name Allaah continuously and binding one's heart to the sufi sheikh (spiritual master)! The objective is talking the secret with Al-Haqq (Allaah) whereby there is no angel or anyone present" (See Abee Khazzaam's Mu'jam Al-Mustalahaat as-Sufiyyah p82)

from day break till the time of Asr. After that he (the disciple) goes out to the market and does the Ahwaal( A state or condition of joy, sadness, relaxation, constriction, etc. Which touches the heart See Al-Hanfee's Mu'jam Al-Mustalahaat as sufiyyah p.73) which will make him faint (like in insanity, madness) and consequently his fanaa in the name (ie. Allaah) will be complete and he will draw nearer to his fath."
    ---
Comment on (which will make him faint like in insanity, madness)

    footnote 194

Because it occasions a stillness like death. To the sufi devotee this represents the initiating of the state of jathb: "Divine attraction" which will disturb his human equilibrium, and make him lose connection with the surrounding environment. He will traverse the world of the ghayb until he reaches the names of Allaah after which he may be effaced in the manifestations of Allaah's Thaat (essence)! [ See Waleyullaah ad-Dahlawee in Al-Kibreet Al-Ahmar wal Ikseer al-akbar p77 from kashf p396]

    Footnote 195

Fath: Is the opening of the manifestation of the ahadiyyah (oneness) of Allaah's Thaat (essence). It is the continuous stay in the state of jam with complete annhilation of all human qualities. The ahadiyyah in the mystic terminology is the absolute thaat free from the names or attributes or any of their effects. [See Abee Khazzaam's Mu'jam Al-Al-Faath as sufiyyah p39 and p134. Simply, the sufi has reaches the "Presence of Allaah's Thaat." High Allaah is above what they attribute to Him. [See Al-Futoohaat Al-Ilaahiyyah p.338]

    bismillah ar rahman ar raheem

brothers and sisters im qouting from dr. salih as salih book dispraise of al hawwa on nuh ha mim keller and his deviancies. Now in reliance of the traveler that nuh ha mim keller has worked on and released to present 'traditional islam' he includes in there ibn ajeebah's commentary on ibn Attaa Illaah's Hikam (Aphorism.) Now look at this statement below from that same book (the commentary)

pg90 of dispraise of al hawwa

Ibn Ajeebah's Eeqaath Al-Himam is the most widely-known commentary on ibn attaa illaah's Hikam (Aphorism). Ibn Ajeebah relates through one of his sheikhs (Al-Darqaawee) that Al-Faqeeh Al-Banaanee said: "The hikam of ibn ataa illaah had nearly come to be a Wahy (revelation), and had it been permissible to perform the salat (prayers) in something other than Al-Quraan it would have been allowed using the words of Al-Hikam (of ibn ataa illaah)" or as he said. 196

    Footnote 196

Ibn Ataa Illaah is ahmad bin muhammad bin abdul kareem, Abul Fadl Taaj-ud-deen ibn Ataa illaah al-Iskandaree. A sufi on the shaathili tareeqah. In nuh ha mim keller's collection of his biography we read: "Sufi imam and author of al-Hikam Al-Ata'iyya (The aphorism of Ata) one of the greatest works of the shadhili tariqa, in which he was the second sucessor of imam abul hasan al shadhili himself... Among the words he conveyed from the founder of his order were, "This path is not monasticism, eating bareley and bran, or garrlousness of affectation, but rather preserverence in the divine commands and certainty in the divine guidance." .....But this true legacy lies in the path he served and the disciples he left to further it, their hearts opened to the knowledge of Allaah Most High Through his instruction in the mystic way, which his hikam and other works amply attest to his profound master of it." (EMPHASIS ADDED). He died in Cairo in 709/1309 (The reliance.... x156 p1053)

Ibn ajeebah speaks about the secrets of the sufi order that they relate to "the secrets of the thaat (Allaah's essence) and the lights of the sifaat (Allaah's attributes) through which the truth manifested the perceptible existence. Ibn Ataa illaah indicated thi smatter in his saying: "The entire being is darkness, however, it was lit by the manifestation of the Truth in it." (Eeqaath Al-Himam, p39)

One wonders about the secrets of the Thaat! How is it that these people know the secrets of the thaat which are only known to Allaah? They say that it should be kept with its people, the sufi cult. Otherwise the story of Al-Hallaaj still hangs on their heart. Ibn ajeebah said:

"And Al-Hallaaj, radiallahu anhu - may Allaah be pleased with him, (From the words of ibn ajeebah!) said:

'I am You without any doubt
    Subhaanak is Subhanee
(referring to himself. Since he and Allaah are the same (!) then making tasbeeh of him is the same as making tasbeeh of Allaah. Declaring that he (as Allaah) is far removed from every imperfection. Allaah is above what they attribute to Him.)

Your tawheed is my Tawheed and disobeying You is disobeying me.

Glorified be He whom his naasoot (Creation, human qualities) made manifest the secret of His shining and piercing Lahoot (the divine) Lahooot and Nasoot are terms of christian origin refering to the dwelling of the Laahoot (God) in the Nasoot (ie. Easaa alayhis salam ) !!! ) He then appeared in His creation manifested in the image of the one who eats and drinks. Even His creation was able to see Him with their own eyes like the moment an eyebrow sees an eyebrow (Emphasizing certitude).' And because of the unraveling of such matters and other similar ones He (Al-Hallaaj) radiallahu anhu was killed."
    (Eeqaath Al-Himam p156)

    ------End of words

Dear brothers and sister at a time where we see these forumers rushing towards nuh ha mim keller and others and mysticism and some even ourselves being influenced by this, can we ever dare to trust nuh ha mim keller and his 'traditional ways' and believe that when he says the sufism he follows is based upon quran and sunnah is the truth? Nay rather we see the ghuloo (Extremnism ) in his path and the masters he praises.

Allaahuma sali ala muhammadin wa ala ali muhammad

O Allaah save us from destruction!

    Ameen

laa hawla wa la quuwwata illaa billaah! subhaan Allaah, is this tradionalism?! jazaakAllaah Ahlus Sunnah for posting this, i have the book (dispraise of al hawwa, in pdf version), i think i should read it. is it just refuting nuh keller's reliance of the traveller? for what i know it has a chapter dealing with tazkiya by ibnul qayyim, rah, is that correct?
Shaykh ibn Baaz (RAH) said: "the messenger of Allaah (sAaws) said: 'whoever Allah wants good in, He will give him knowledge in the deen'... that means that whoever doesn't learn or understand (yatafaqqah), Allah doesn't want good in him! Wa la hawla wa la quuwwata illaa bih!"

    as salaamu alaykum

wa iyak, Naam at the beginning of the book he has a good section from ibnul qayyim rahimullah on purifying yourself. Im assuming that the reason he has this is to show the true path of tazkiyyah an nafs and not the false practice of taking bayah with a shaykh and practicing innovated forms of worship. The section of imaam ibnul qayyim rahimullah is very great. Especially it is needed. Its a bit like ibnul qayyim's (Path of Guidance)

After that dr. salih as salih then goes on to show the Zuhd of the Salaf vs the Zuhd of the Mystic Sufis.

He shows the gholoo from some of the 'praised sufi masters' that the sufis love and adore. He qoutes from 'mainly sufi works' meaning throughout the book its mostly direct qoutes from sufi works (many of which are praised by nuh ha mim keller in his reliance as seen posted in my posts).

He goes through many sections on sufi concepts showing how rediculous they are and innovated they are. He goes on to show the deviant concept of acting like a dead body with its washer reffering to taking initiation into a tariqa.

He shows that when nuh ha mim keller and others say 'this path of ours is the quran and sunnah' that in reality its a concealment of the reality of the sufi way. Including some of those masters who said that our path is quran and sunnah he qoutes from their works showing that they are not following the guidance of the Quran and sunnah. So even these so called 'true sufis' are deviant themselves let alone those who do not claim to base their way from quran and sunnah.

Its a great book i got a copy from one of the bookstores. It is well worth it. Whenever i would open up reliance of the traveler (that I have) if a doubt came i would look into dr. salih's book and it has proved to be beneficial. May Allaah reward dr. salih with good and accept this work from him ameen
