Default Albani and Rashid Rida and Muhammad Abduh

    Assalamu alaikum

May this reach you in the best state of health and iman. Ameen.

Does anyone have any information concerning the intellectual influence that Rashid Rida (or Muhammad Abduh) influenced on Albani?

How do Salafi 'Ulema view these two modernist 'Ulema?

    masalama

I wouldn't know much in terms of how much al-Albani was influenced by the two, and in what way, but the Salafi scholars tend to view Rashid Rida in good light but not so much his teacher, Muhammad Abdu.

As with anyone else, they commend them for challenging the false ideas and practises in their time and place, such as taqleed, Shirk and bid'a, etc. But they also disliked them for their modernism, rationalism which was essentially mu'tazilism, and the rest of the illnesses that come with these two diseases: rejection of ahadeeth, rationalisation, modernisation (westernisation for a better word) of laws, etc.

With regards to the influence of Albani and Rashid Rida/Muhammad Abduh, a simple test might be: those ideas which Albani developed that were shared or similar to the Rida/Abduh; did they exist a priori or a posteriori to his interactions with them?

To my knowledge, there was no interaction between Sh al-Albani and the two to begin with.

Many Salafi biographies state that Albani worked for al-Manar because he was attracted to the ideas of Rashid Rida and Mohammad Abduh. I am not asking whether they had physical interaction but whether the latter influenced the former in his ideas since there seems to be a lot of overlap in their thinking.

    those ideas
    Name these "ideas".

Can you provide a link to these biographies.

Give examples of this overlap. I can assure you that Shaykh al-Albani was no modernist like Abduh and I know he criticised Muhammad al-Ghazali for this.

I've read that al-Albani read al-Manar in his youth. I don't think he worked for it.

MashaaAllah... how many biographies have you read, let alone Salafi biographies?

He was an avid reader of al-Manar, but I don't think he ever worked for them.

some of his Takhrij al-Hadith has been published in al-Manar, early on. Later it was re-published in seperate works. I've read this somewhere.
