Ayah in surah al-fatiha? If so, then your salah could be invalid depending on if you're sure you messed it up and the meaning changed.
As for having a doubt about not reciting an ayah correctly for a surah after al-fatiha, then I believe your salah would be valid because reciting a surah after al-fatiah is a sunnah not a rukn/wajib.
This is me thinking out loud. Do not consider it a fatwa. Somebody else more knoweldgeable can add to this.
as salaamu alaykum
jazakallah khayr akhi. It was a surah after fatiha. I was reciting alqariah and im not sure if i landed a particular ayah but I am also not 100 percent that I did not land it.
As Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah akhi,
Your salaah was valid and does not need to be repeated, insha'Allahu ta'ala. The reasons for this are (among others):
1. Reciting a surah or any ayah after Suratul Fatihah in any salaah is not fard, it is sunnah. This means that even if you recited Al Fatihah and went straight into ruku, your salaah is valid and you have not committed any sin.
2. One of the principles of this deen that Allahu subhanahu wa ta'ala has made so perfect and complete is "certainty is not annulled by doubt". Please refer to principle 11 in the set of articles by Sheikh As Sa'di that you downloaded from me.
Now, what would you do if you had doubt about whether you recited "ihdinas siratul mustaqeem" correctly or forgot to recite it altogether?
These are problems that shaytan tricks us with and hopes we will not learn the proper way of dealing with.
