Start of Fast times and confusions! As-salaamu'alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu
I was just wondering if I could ask, I follow the ISNA calculations of sala times bui in http://www.islam21c.com/islamic-law/3087-the-correct-time-to-start-your-fast]Shaykh haytham's recent piece on the topic[/url] it mentioned their calculation method was anomolous to other methods. Here is the table in the article
Convention Fajr Angle Isha Angle University of Islamic Sciences, Karachi 18 18 Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) 15* 15* Muslim World League (MWL) 18 17 Umm al-Qura, Makkah 19* According to their table it is 90 mins after Maghrib Egyptian General Authority of Survey 19.5* *
ls it advisable to change to the timetable of shaykh haytham's for more security? What about after ramadan? I always thought it would be better for me to stick to one timetable and just follow that as valid.
Now I'm confused. wa ALLAHU A'LAM
I have atached the shaykh's timetable he proposes - may Allah Ta'ala reward him and his family! Ameen!"Sit with one whose limbs address you, not his mouth." Sahl ibn `Abd Allah ibn Yunus, Abu Muhammad al-Tustari (d. 283), may Allah be well-pleased with him.
قال إبن عمر: "ولا يكن في قولك فضل على فعلك" ,أخرج البيهقي: شعب الإيمان وابن حجر العسقلاني: الإصابة في تمييز الصحابة
Ibn 'Umar said: "And do not let your words be in excess to your actions", Al-Baihaqi: Shu'ab al-Imaan and Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani: Al-Isaabah fee Taymeez as-Sahaaba

Re: Start of Fast times and confusions! I'm confused too.
I have a few different timetables and on most of them fajr starts around 3.30AM. On one of them it starts around 2.30AM. Why the massive difference?

Re: Start of Fast times and confusions! actually there is a fake dawn everywhere. its very neat to witness for yourself.
basically what i do is use the timetable as a guideline. i use my eyes to see if the timetable is correct though.

Re: Start of Fast times and confusions! The exact times depend upon the height of the location above sea level in addition to latitude and longitude. A location on a high mountain will have an earlier sunrise and a later sunset than if the same location were at sea level.
