Default Earthquake and Volcanic Erruption in Medina

I don't know why news stations haven't been broadcasting this, but a while back there was an earthquake and volcanic erruption in Medina. Heres the arabic link: آخر بركان ظهر في المدينة المنورة قبل 700 سنة فقط سبقه زلزال شديد

The question I ask is: Isn't this one of the signs of the coming of Ad-Dajjal? Can anyone provide the Ahadeeth on the subject. Thanx.

    Good question...

Probably not broadcast to avoid causing a general panic, well specific panic, since it would probably only worry Believers...
"Their generosity is impressive, their faces luminous, their voices soft, their manners exquisite. And they have given us the satisfying feeling that we are more important to them than time, or anything else."

Khaleej Times Online - 1,200 Mild Tremors Felt in Madinah

1,200 Mild Tremors Felt in Madinah
    4 May 2009

JEDDAH – The holy city of Madinah experienced more than 1,200 tremors over the last several days, according to the National Centre for Earthquakes and Volcanoes at the Saudi Geological Survey (SGS).

SGS said on Saturday that most of these occurred in and around Madinah and were very weak. The tremors had magnitudes of between 0.78 and 3.7 on the Richter Scale. Some residents, especially in the village of Al-Ais, felt the tremors on Thursday and Friday.

Hani bin Mahmoud Zahran, director of the centre, said Bahrat Al-Shaqqah was the epicenter of the earthquakes, which began on April 18 and are still on.

He said the strongest tremors measured 3.7 degrees on the Richter Scale. He added that villagers in Hadmah, Al-Qarrasa, Al-Ameed, Al-Faraa and Al-Sahla felt six tremors.

He said the Civil Defence immediately dispatched specialised technicians to carry out thermostatic measurements at Bahrat Al-Shaqqah and install a monitoring station there.
Zahran said SGS was monitoring the situation round the clock and was collecting data to understand the nature of the tremors and if they were connected to volcanic activity.

Meanwhile, studies of earthquake precursory phenomena during the last several decades have found that significant geophysical and geochemical changes can occur prior to intermediate and large earthquakes.

The Arabian Peninsula is slowly breaking away from the African continent and a major fault line is located along the Red Sea off the west coast of the Kingdom. The peninsula is slowly drifting toward the Subcontinent. However, the sandy soil that makes up most of Saudi Arabia acts as a kind of geological mattress that absorbs most of the numerous tremors registered every year.

That is not to say that Saudi Arabia is completely immune to potentially dangerous building-toppling earthquakes and the ensuing volcanic activity. According to historical texts, Madinah was rocked with a staccato of tremors in 1256 (654 Hijri) strong enough to raise concerns among the locals.

The land between Madinah and Makkah makes up the world’s largest expanse of volcanic rock. Lava fields are known in Arabic as ‘harraat’ and the 180,000-square-mile Harrat Rahat between Makkah and Madinah covers an area twice the size of Lebanon.

The western region of Saudi Arabia contains a 40-km thick layer of volcanic rock beneath a soft layer of desert sand, known by geologists as the ‘Arabian Shield’ which spans the entire west coast of Saudi Arabia.

The main part of this geologic shield is so wide that it nearly reaches Riyadh, over 800 km from the west coast.

this is probably a stupid question, but if the arabian peninsula is drifting won't that effect the direction of the kibla? I know it happens very slowly, but say in a 100 years, the degree you use on a compass would be different to what it is today right?

    hadith is below

Hadith - Bukhari 9.239, Narrated Anas bin Malik
The Prophet (sallalahu alihe wasallum ) said, "Ad-Dajjal will come and encamp at a place close to Medina and then Medina will shake thrice whereupon every Kafir (disbeliever) and hypocrite will go out (of Medina) towards him."
