At least 12 people have been killed and 25 others hurt in a suicide bomb attack on a market in the south of Baghdad, the Iraqi capital, security officials have said.
The attacker targeted a US military patrol travelling through a market in the district of Dora on Thursday, officials from the Iraqi interior and defence ministries said.
An Iraqi police source said three US soldiers were among those killed in the blast, but the US military said it was awaiting further details.
"Right now, we have an initial report of an attack in the area, and a unit is en route to the location," a US military statement said.
The attack comes days after 10 people were killed and 37 hurt when a vehicle blew up in a wholesale produce market in Dora.
Dora, a confessionally mixed district, has been one of the Iraqi capital's most dangerous areas.Narrated An-Nu'man bin Bashir:
I heard Allah's Apostle saying, 'Both legal and illegal things are evident but in between them there are doubtful (suspicious) things and most of the people have no knowledge about them. So whoever saves himself from these suspicious things saves his religion and his honor. And whoever indulges in these suspicious things is like a shepherd who grazes (his animals) near the Hima (private pasture) of someone else and at any moment he is liable to get in it. (O people!) Beware! Every king has a Hima and the Hima of Allah on the earth is His illegal (forbidden) things. Beware! There is a piece of flesh in the body if it becomes good (reformed) the whole body becomes good but if it gets spoilt the whole body gets spoilt and that is the heart.

Re: Several killed in Baghdad bombing
Its been confirmed, 3 US soldiers are dead Alhumdulillah.
Reporting from Baghdad -- Three American soldiers on foot patrol were among 25 people killed in another upsurge of violence in Iraq today, the U.S. military and Iraqi police said.
The Americans were killed in the southern Baghdad neighborhood of Dora when an improvised explosive device detonated near their patrol, the U.S. military said in a statement. According to Iraqi police, five U.S. soldiers also were wounded.
The deadliest blast Thursday occurred in Baghdad's southern Dora district, where a roadside bomb exploded near an American foot patrol, U.S. and Iraqi officials said.
The soldiers were killed when a bomb exploded at about 10:38 a.m. as they patrolled near a popular outdoor market, said Army Maj. David Shoupe. He said nine other U.S. personnel were wounded.
Shoupe said four civilians were also killed in the blast, though Iraqi police and hospital officials put the civilian toll at 12 killed and 25 wounded.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information.
The officials said the soldiers were attacked by a suicide bomber, though Shoupe said the attack was caused by a bomb. Conflicting information is common in the chaotic aftermath of a bombing attack in Iraq. And if We had destroyed them with a torment before this, they would surely have said: "Our Lord! If only You had sent us a Messenger, we should certainly have followed Your Ayât, before we were humiliated and disgraced." (133-134, Surah Ta-Ha)
