    Depression(Bro's n Sis plz help)

    As Salam Walaikum,

My brothers and sisters in Islam hope Allah(swt) kept you in good helth. I have a serious problem and I wanted your advise. I am going through a very tough phase in my life. I have too many problems in my life and I'm finding it very difficult to handle. I don't have anyone in this entire universe to share my feelings with. I had lot of friends earlier who betrayed me,used me and left me all alone. I am very depressed and don't know what to do sometimes I feel like killing myself but I know its haraam and so I keep away from doing so. My loneliness is adding to my problems making me more depressed. I am requesting you people to advise me what can I do that can ease my depression.

Moderators: Sorry I didn't know where to post it.

May Allah(swt) make this life easy fro us and unite us in the next life in Al jannatul Firdaus. Ameen

    Allah Hafiz.

    Your brother in Islam.

If, and only if, you have clinical depression then you should get some medication.

    Asalamualaykum,

Akhi Im not very good at advice but Ill make dua for you InshaAllah, and ask the Allah the lord of all that exists to ease your difficulty for you.

We all go through bad times and sometimes when we look back we realise that things were'nt that bad, well not as bad as they seemed at the time anyway.

Remember brother after difficulty comes ease have sabr and turn to Allah subhana wa ta ala.Think of all those muslims who are suffering around the world,Im sure if we reflect on the hardships of our muslim brothers and sisters in Iraq,Afghansiatan etc our own problems will seem insignificant in comparison.

Khair akhi make dua for yourself and for me and all muslims and remember after bad days there comes good ones InshaAllah.

    Do dhikr

    Assalamu Alaikum

When I get depressed, I do Dhikr.

e.g I remember Allah more. I remind myself this life will quickly leave us, and so will its problems.
I remember Allah is my only friend, and I speak to Him one on one, knowing He can hear me. I tell Him my problems and I only seek His help. I seek forgiveness for my mistakes and sins, and ask for Istiqaamah in doing good. Reading Qiyaam-ul-layl also helps. Do lots of Sujood.
Increase your taqwa, turn your attention towards Him, know that only He has the power to help you or harm you.
I remember the promise Allah has made. The promise of Jannah. I imagine myself dying and being ressurected, facing Allah, and entering Paradise inshAllah.
Remember those who have it worse than you, remember the persecuted muslims around the world. Remember the prophet's life and the problems he had.

KNOW that Allah is watching you at this very moment, and that Allah loves you, KNOW that He knows your problems, and He is the All-Wise. He has a reason for making you go through this. He wants you to increase in faith. "Do the people think that they will be left to say, "We believe," without being put to the test?" [29:2]. Only complain to Him.

To sum it up, remember what Allah has told us to remember, because we are insaan and we forget.

    Hope this helps.
p.s. Please avoid Antidepressants, very dangerous, trust me I'm a pharmacist.

Akhi, address to Allah. His help is amazing. I had some tough moments in my life and the help of Allah was immediate.

Remember, when we make a step towards him, He makes towards us many more, when we walk to Him, He runs to us.

He is the One who goes to lower Heaven in the hour before Fajr and asks if there is anyone seeking for forgiveness.

Avoid any drugs. Trust me, there is no help in them.

Do changes in your life, if you feel need to.

If you live alone, move in with your brothers in Deen. If you live far from the Masjid, move closer to the masjid.

Remember, it will all pass. We live only 3 seconds and Allah never makes us bear more tests that we can bear.

Be thankful for what you have and do not desire more. Consider emotional pain as necessary step in cleansing. Just take it as it comes.

    Wa alaykum as-salam,

A lot of clinically depressed people have a difficult time to do dhikr due to their depression.

I humbly disagree. One should not make sweeping generalizations like this.

Brother, countless patients have benefited from anti-depressants and we should not deny him the right to feel better.

    As-Salam Alaykum dear brother,

Make constant du`a, and also see a psychiatrist. Suicidal ideation is a serious thing, and you should definitely seek both spiritual and medical cure. You can start feeling better, I promise you. Please do see a psychiatrist.

If you read my post, you would know that by dhikr I dont mean repeating a phrase.

If you have researched western medicine, you would know that most of the time the idea is to mask the symptoms rather than address the root cause of the problem. Altering the physical state of the brain will not solve it if it is a mental problem. It will only seem to be helping as long as you keep taking the medicine. Never mind the side affects and withdrawal symptoms. Western research has admitted to the inefficacy of antidepressants.

KNOW that depression is a symptom (sign) of a problem, depression is not a diagnosis.

Even if the depression is caused by a chemical imbalance (e.g. hyperthyroidism), even then western medicine should be avoided, look for natural/herbal medicine. Cures for every disease are available easily and very cheap, you just have to look for them.

In muslim countries antidepressant use is very low. There are many reasons for this which I dont have time to go into now.

Read "America Fooled: The Truth About Antidepressants, AntiPsychotics and how we've been deceived" by Dr. Timothy Scott.

Western medicine is about patenting natural cures and then make a loads of money from them. Pharmaceutical companies are among the most evil companies in the world. These companies are so evil they even give these kind of mind altering medicine to children and toddlers in America. see http://www.ritalindeath.com/. They are the ones sterilizing kids in Pakistan, with their polio drops etc, they are the ones who test experimental and dangerous drugs in Africa.

Also if any of you have kids avoid vaccinations at all costs. If you dont beleive me, research it.

I can go on and on about this, giving you proofs, sources etc but I dont have the time now.

Brother seeker_of_knowledge, listen to what Abu Abdallah al-Bulghari, Waziri have said.

If by seeing a psychiatrist you mean talk to a muslim brother, who can listen, understand and maybe help, then I'm all for it. But dont go to one who will prescribe for you fluoxetine etc.

My family has a history of depression, and one of them takes medicine, once you start you cant stop, and she's still depressed. It makes her like a vegetable...

    got to go, Wassalam.
