Book 008, Number 3425:
'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported that Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hadhaifa, lived with him and his family in their house. She (i. e. the daughter of Suhail came to Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) and said: Salim has attained (purbety) as men attain, and he understands what they understand, and he enters our house freely, I, however, perceive that something (rankles) in the heart of Abu Hudhaifa, whereupon Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) said to her: Suckle him and you would become unlawful for him, and (the rankling) which Abu Hudhaifa feels in his heart will disappear. She returned and said: So I suckled him, and what (was there) in the heart of Abu Hudhaifa disappeared. [Saheeh Muslim]
I wasn't there when she came to our table, but I was wondering how do you answer back at this person (in case someone else comes with a similar argument). Like, I know there is an explanation for it, I just don't know what it is since I am not very knowledgable. jazakumAllaahu khairun
Allahu a'lam, but I think I remember reading somewhere on this forum that Salim did not suckle directly from his master's wife, but rather that she put the milk from her breast into a cup and he drank it. Apparently this is how some ulama have explained it, maybe there is another narration which mentions the cup, wallahu 'alam.

What is the status of those people who completely reject hadith but say they follow the sunnah?
Are they Muslim or Kaafir?

If they reject the concept of the sunnah, if they say that there is no need for us to follow what Muhammad saws said, then that is kufr.
If they say something like, I don't think hadith today are authentic, then they need to do some studying on the science of hadith.

Imaam Ahmed (may Allah Most High have mercy upon him) has said “Whosoever rejects the hadeeth of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) is on the brink of destruction”
Ishaaq ibn Raahuwayh said: “Whosoever has received information from the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) confirms its authenticity and then rejects it without knowledge (i.e evidence to the
contrary) is a disbeliever (kaafir).”
Abu Muhammad Al-Barbahaari stated in his Sharhus-Sunnah “If you hear a man who discredits the
traditions and does not accept them or he denies something of the information from the Messenger of
Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam), then doubt his Islam for he is a man of the vilest thought and speech.
He is in fact discrediting the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) and his Sahaabah.”
He also stated “Any one of the people of the qiblah is not expelled from the fold of Islam until he has rejected a verse of the Book of Allah the Mighty and Sublime or has rejected something from the traditions of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam), or prays to other than Allah or slaughters for other than Allah. If so, it is your duty to expel him from the fold of Islam.”
He further stated “Whosoever rejects a single verse from Allah's Book has rejected the Book in its entirety, and whosoever rejects ahadeeth of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) has certainly rejected the entirety of the traditions and is by that a disbeliever in Allah the Most Great.”
Ibraaheem ibn Ahmed ibn Shaaqilaa has said “Whoever opposes news [of the Prophet (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) and insolently dares to reject what has been transmitted by a trustworthy narrator (adl) who has transmitted directly from someone who is also adl - with no break in the chain of narration and no criticism of transmitters (narrators) - has forced his way into the rejection of Islam”.
Ibn Hazm stated in Kitaabul Ahkaam “When there comes the text (of a hadeeth) and no two Muslims differ on its correctness and authenticity as having come from the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) and being what he has in fact said, then it is obligatory to follow it. It (i.e. the sunnah) is the explanation of what Allah intends in the Qur'aan and clarification of what has been mentioned without details
And this is not just for the Quraaniyoon to look at the evidences but us Muslims too who we claim to be on the haqq yet we dont grow beards for ex or do not attend mosque for jaamat or wake up for fajr on time this is all effecting our emaan and could even lead to apostacy

Shaykhul-Islam Ibn Taymiyah said in his Fatawa 8/360:
Anyone who claims that he loves Allah (swt) but does not follow the Messenger (saw) he is a liar.
His love is not for Allah (swt) alone, nay his love in it is the love of Shirk, because he is associating with Allah (swt) another God, indeed he is following his own Hawa. Like the Jews and Christians
claim the love Allah (swt) if they where really sincere in their claim they would have followed the Messenger (saw). Once you love the thing which Allah (swt) hates, your love is that of Shirk.
Ibn Qayim said in al-Madarij 1/99: If they were true in their love then they would have followed Allah (swt's) orders and stayed away from what Allah (swt) prevented them from doing. The realisation of love is following what Allah (swt) ordered you and leaving what Allah (swt) forbade. When you find them following the orders of Allah (swt) then you see their love clearly. The following of the Messenger (saw) is a sign of your love and is a witness for those who claim to love the Messenger. And Allah (swt) says (Say: If you really love Allah then follow me). Allah (swt) has made following the Messenger (saw) a condition of your love for Him (swt) and a condition upon Himself (swt) to love you… It is impossible to confirm their love to Allah or Allah's love to them except with the following of theMessenger (saw).
Whosoever renounces the Messenger after the guidance has been made clear to him and proceeds to follow other than the way of the believers we shall turn away from him for what he has undertaken and burn him in hell. What a terrible end! An-Nisaa' 4:115
And the Most High says, Rather they deny what they cannot understand and when the explanation of it comes to them. Such is the denial of those who preceded them and look at the outcome of the deniers of the truth Yoonus 10:39
What the Messenger has forbidden you from, desist from it and fear Allah. Verily Allah is intense in punishment. Al-Hashr 59:7
It is related in Saheeh Muslim from Abu Hurairah (radiallahu anhu) that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said, “I have been ordered to fight the people until they bear witness that there is no deity deserving of worship except Allah and they believe in me and that which I have brought. If they do this then their blood and wealth is inviolable to me except with just cause and their account rests with Allah.” An-Nisaa'
