Post Your Messages of Support for Kuwaiti Detainee Nasser Al Mutairi
Kuwaiti ambassador Khaled al-Mukhamis announced last Wednesday that Guantanamo detainee, Nasser Al Mutairi would be released from the US gulag of Guantanamo after enduring 3 years of torture and human rights abuses. He is expected to be returned to Kuwait within 10 days.
In close anticipation of his release, we would like to dedicate this thread as a warm welcome for him and his family on this joyous occasion. Please post your comments and messages of support for Nasser here, and we will ensure that he reads them.
26 year old Nasser Nijer Naser al Mutairi is one of 12 Kuwaitis who have been held in Guantanamo since its inception in January 2002. He was teaching English in Afghanistan when he was captured three years ago. Prior to his detention, Nasser was a teacher and minister who worked for the Ministry of Education in Kuwait. He left his home in October of 2000 in order to minister in the small mosques and schools of Pakistan's poorer regions. He is a member of the Tableeghi sect, an order of apolitical and peaceful missionaries who travel around the world spreading the word of Islam through education and good works.
In October of 2002, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed Nasser's family that he had taken ill and was in a hospital in Kandahar. It is not known why or how he was deported from the hospital to Guantanamo Bay. In fact, very little is known of his condition, other than that he has asked his parents to contact the Red Cross on his behalf. It has also been reported that Nasser spent some time in the clinic in Guantanamo and was unable to straighten his back.
