Default What is the meaning of "mahdar"?

Assalamu alaykum brothers and sisters. I hope you are all well.

I came across the word mahdar (transliterated from Arabic),and I don't know what it means.

    Here is some context:

Aboo Dawood said, "I used to see Aboo 'Abdullah's buttons undone, and I sometimes saw him with mismatched socks and sandals. I never saw him wearing a mahdar or anything having two straps."

If it helps, the above is from the biography of Aboo Dawood and he's talking about Imam Ahmad.

The word is not transliterated correctly. It's supposed to be Makhdhara, not Mahdar. Which means green/greenish from the word Akhdar.

Here is the original text in Arabic.

وقال أبو داود : كنت أرى أزرار أبي عبد الله محلولة . ورأيت عليه من النعال ومن الخفاف غير زوج ، فما رأيت فيه مخضرا ولا شيئا له قبالان .

الإمام ابن القيم الجوزية رحمه الله فقال: بل الدين كله هو الخلق، فمن زاد عليك في الخلق، فقد زاد عليك في الدين

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah رحمه الله said: Religion consists entirely of good character (الدين كله هو الخلق). Whoever surpasses you in good character surpasses you in religion.
اللهم يا مقلب القلوب ثبت قلوبنا على دينك

Ok, so it was a typo and should have been transliterated as mukhadhar/mukhadharan to mean something green-colored, as in like a green garment? Maybe green garments were considered luxurious at that time. Interesting. Jazakallahu khairan for looking that up.
