What brought me here was 'Rotten Apples and Oranges', what keeps me here is the chance to attempt to destroy pseudo-academic arguments in favor of Bid'ah, and what will probably lead to me leaving is living without electricity...

AbuNaim came over to the side of good after a while and it appears others as well. We all make mistakes and are prone to getting upset, that shouldn't be looked down upon.

What bakes my noodles is when people sit back in the face of a full Mubtadi' onslaught and say nothing, or even worse, bend over backwards to be 'nice' to someone after 15 pages of insulting the 'Ulamaa' and alleging heresy against them and most Muslims for having the correct belief.

We all have our own perspective on many events, personalities, objectives, etc., but Islam should be something that we have in common, and it is quite apparent that it is not the case- some claim it and never had it, some talk a good game, then come up short, others know a lot more than what they are contributing, and that's just sad...

Islamic Awakening....we are seeing some of the seeds, but they need more cultivating and less complacency...

{Oh you who believe indeed a great many of the scholars and monks truly consume the wealth of people in falsehood and repel from the path of Allah and those who accumulate gold and silver and do not spend in the path of Allah, thus inform them of a severe punishment.} [at-Tawbah: 34]

I'll let the brother say what he has switched from and to what, but I can say that we have been finding more and more common ground than before...

I'd like to think that there is learning going on, on each side...

I came here for apples and oranges as well, having been good friends with the author offline. So I came here and for some reason I had a good life - I was just coming here at times reading the 'Aqida section and sometimes the Fiqh section as well and I think that went on for a while, and I was truly able to have no desire what so ever to read or write other posts!

Then the IA mentality crept into my dreadlocks and really made me a twisted piece of natural matter! But I see good and honest people here too.

Isma'il, I love that brother very gud luv.
Abdulkareem, he's my favorite so no wonder he bounced.
IbnShaikh is a good chat and very intellectual young white lad though he's making hajr of me now.
    Rakan -
Abu Treika, a wise and a very good and balanced brother who's face really doesn't match his internet image tho.

It also seems that only a handful of people remain here from the days I arrived - Am I just imagining or is it true?

right before i joined and i read around, i thought it was a great forum for people who follow the right aqeedah. and i still agree that most people here are on the right aqeedah. when i joined i was a non muslim and i found that i was constantly being harassed by people who would say "CONVERT, CONVERT." nothing wrong with that in theory, only i was asking QUESTIONS and they were telling me this. i was asking questions to get answers that would help me on my way to reversion, and instead of getting answers i was just being told "when will you revert already?"

so i was disappointed because i didnt get a lot of my questions answered.

then when i finally was a muslim i started asking questions that still popped up. a lot of it was on issues pertaining to hadith, aqeedah, and fiqh. i was then told "you are a new muslim, dont worry about it."

now when i ask questions people actually answer me and dont just find excuses to not answer. however it is obvious that most dont show proofs for their reasoning and a lot of people also have to put in their two cents(personal opinion) about everything.

i feel that most members here are too judgmental and dont have proper islamic etiquette. i am disgusted at how often members here stereotype and make false accusations against others. it has become obvious that a lot of people here are in their rebellious youth age where nothing can ever be good in their lives and everything must have some negative to it.

but i still come here anyways. because there are many great members here who do not fit the general description above, and many people do have knowledge(or references to knowledge) that would otherwise be rather hard to find for me.

so do i think this place is an excellent place for muslims to discuss things? absolutely not. and i do NOT recommend this place to new reverts either. too much drama.

but is it a place that has helped me? are there many good and caring members? yes
‘Abdullaah ibn Salaam reported that the Messenger of Allaah said:
    O people!
    spread the greeting of salaam,
    feed others,
    maintain the ties of kinship,
pray at night while the people sleep,
and you shall enter Jannah, safe and sound.

Bin Baz said: 'And indeed some Mushrikun claimed that their intention from worshipping the Prophets and the pious people, and from taking idols as lords beside Allah (swt), was to bring them near to Allah (swt) and gain the intercession through them to Allah (swt), Praise and Glory be to Him. But Allah (swt) rejected that and refuted it by saying: "And they worship besides Allah (swt) things that hurt them not, nor profit them, and they say `these are our intercessors with Allah (swt)'. Say `Do you inform Allah (swt) of that which he knows not in the Heavens and on the Earth?' Glorified and Exalted be He above all that which they associate as partners with Him!"

Before I registered I recongnised this forum to be about refutations, but with very few posters posting anything else.

Now the forum has many more members and it's busier, topics have changed as times have changed, muslims have to deal with so many attacks on their religion and add to that mix the muslims who agree with some of these attacks. You can see all of that here as well.
I agree there are a lot of youth on here but I would hope that the older members would help them and guide them with hikma as they flare up on many threads.

As for guiding and moulding, some members are just too abusive and rude and make you have doubts about everything, they just attack all the time, which encourages others to join in, whatever happened to advising in private.

I do believe there is brother and sisterhood on these forums, but just the topic of certain threads leads to heated debates, that cant be helped if your part of a family then arguments happen.

JazakAllaahu Khair for starting this thread and making us think.
Deeds are your money on the day of judgement , make sure you collect plenty now.
