    Default My son's Islamic education

    Asalamualaykum,

A sister from another forum has asked for advice regarding her sons islamic education I asked if I could post it here and she agreed here is the question.

    "asalamualaykum wa rahmatullah

my son is 3 years old and i was wondering if anyone could advise me on what he should no islamically at this age. I have concerns as his father is no longer here and I believe that a man needs to teach the boy how to become a man, i have been teaching him about Allah and creation etc he also has a good understanding of akhirah inshaAllah but as for learning Qur'an he doesnt seem to want to memorise it, so instead i have resorted to teaching him small du'as which he is picking up quite quickly, mashaAllah. If anyone has any ideas of what else i should be doing or could be plz give me some advise inshaAllah
    JazakAllahkhair."

For those bros and sis's with kids who can give good sincere advice please do so may Allah reward you all Aaameen.

The best way to get the kids to memorise the Quran is by playing Quran 24/7... start with Juzz 'Amma... and they will absorb it like sponges.

Get yourself kids Qaidas (and no, you spooks, this is kids' book for learning to read Quran and his nothing to do with Bin Ladin or Zawahiri); and go through it with them on a daily basis and get them to read words. And then get them to read with you from the end of the Quran.

In terms of Arabic, get yourself LOTS of Arabic cartoon films (and there are LOADS) and just sit the kids down in front of the computer or TV while you do other things. Don't worry about them sitting in front of computer for hours on end, because they are learning Arabic. Give it a month, and they'll probably know more Arabic than you.

    As salaamu'alaykum.

If a child is memorising du'a then he can memorise Quraan InshaAllaah , just make sure that your not giving him too much to learn.

You can introduce the arabic alphabet using flash cards as well as the internet.
There are kids book by dar usalaam for children that you can read to them before they sleep and during quiet time during the day.
At three he needs it to be short and simple.

Also, teach him about principles, e.g. defending those weaker than you. About the concept of sacrifice in Islaam, having pride in being a Muslim etc

Yep, and being a good role model yourself , its rewarding when you hear your own childen relate something to someone else, that they learned through you , especially when you thought they were not listening.

Hhhhhhhhh! But are cartoons permissible? I thought that drawing things which imitate creation is not permissible? And if it is permissible, where can we get good cartoons for the pc?

And a good other thing which helps a lot is:

Let your child interact, play etc. with kids who have a similar upbringing or whose parents have a same objective in giving their children a good and promising islamic tarbiyyah.

Believe me, if kids love to do things with other kids - whatever it is: playing football or weekend's school - they will keep being motivated and enjoy their learning. And if they 'hang out' with kids who do not learn Arabic for hours but play all day and go out with parents etc., they will love to do the same and loose interest in what you want (and whats good for them).

"People did not become ignorant nor differed except after their abandonment of the Arabic language and their inclination to the language of Aristoteles!"

After finishing the Qaida...tell him to write the letters Alif and Laam on the front cover and then hide it safe

Teach him swimmming and buy him toy guns. Later on tell him to slowly start doing press ups and sit ups every morning. When he is a bit old enough start getting him pellet guns so that he can start doing target practising in the back garden. Make him consistent in his early youth with night prayers and jogging....and then finally kiss him good bye and send him over the hills and far away.

    Hi waziri,

Why not let a 3 year kid stay a kid for some more years without starting to "punch" islam or other religions, into their minds?

I am absolutely sure that the parents will do a very bad favour to the kid by forcing it into memorizing the quran, it will never make any it any good.

Let the kid grow up, put it into a good school, not a religious on, and let the child decide itself, what religion, if any, when it groves up.

Mika , how does allowing a child to memorise Quran stop him being a child ? do you think they go to Quran school all day and night ? really you need to get out more. My children go to Quran school its 3 times a week in the afternoon for a couple of hours. They haven't stopped being children .
