Bismillah.
One of the most beautiful set of verses in the Qur’an are the last 10 verses of Surah Al-e-Imran (surah no. 3). In these verses, Allah ta’ala discusses the qualities of Ulul Albaab, the people who possess understanding. It is also a sunnah of the Prophet [SAWS] to recite these verses when he would wake up from his sleep.
Ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhu narrates:
One night I stayed overnight in the house of my aunt Maymoonah, and said to myself, “I will watch the prayer of Allah’s Apostle.” My aunt placed a cushion for Allah’s Apostle and he slept on it in its length-wise direction and woke-up rubbing the traces of sleep off his face and then he recited the last ten verses of Surah Al-e-Imran till he finished it. Then he went to a hanging water skin and took it, performed the ablution and then stood up to offer the prayer.

Who are Ulul Albaab?
Albaab is from the root lubb or laam-ba-ba (áÈÈ). Lubb literally means the core or heart of something. So, Ulul Albaab are those who understand the crux and core of the matter. It can also mean intellect, so these people use their intellect to understand, so they get to the crux of a matter.
So, these people are the only ones who understand the ayaat of Allah. They understand the nature of this dunya, and the status of the aakhirah. These verses seem like a conversation between Ulul Albaab and Allah azza wa jal, and in these 10 short verses, Allah ta’ala shows us the qualities of those who are truly successful. It is no surprise then that these verses have a special place in the Sunnah of the Prophet sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam.
So, InshaAllah let’s revive this Sunnah and start our days with the recitation of these beautiful verses, and implement them into our lives. We should also read and learn the tafseer of these verses, as the one who doesn’t read tafseer is like the one who receives a letter from the King without a candle to read it.
And Allah ta’ala knows best.
