And if you still don't know what Paan is, here you go:
Paan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
And whatever 'fresh breath' has been said about Paan chewing in the Wiki article, then that's a load of tosh.

That's for starters. Post anything you want about this horrible habit, including whether it is Haram or Makruh - or Haram.

    Benefits of Chewing Paan

The Quran says in 2:219 vis-a-vis wine and gambling:
I can't see Paan disassociating itself from this verse.

'Can' and 'potential' are too ambiguous. If we're looking at health risks then studies need to be posted (not that I'm going to read them though)

If bayyah or chaachah eats a few paan a week I don't see an issue. Moderation. Too much of a good thing is bad for you too.

    I haven't ever 'bumped' a thread, but...

    'bump'. LOL

Isn't there anyone who wants to say something about Paan? Come on folks! Where are our boys from the South Asia?

Does anyone on this forum chew Paan? (It's like asking: Does anyone here smoke cigars?)

Share your horrible Paan experiences here. Anyone ever suffered from passive 'Paan sniffing' (as opposed to passive smoking)?

Anyone seen a Paan addict smile?

    Anyone attended a Paan feast?

Anyone want to say anything about Paan, or Paan-bashing for that matter?

Lol, when I was younger I'd have a little bit of a whole paan but that would be like 3 times a year or something. I think I tried the tobacco one many years ago and it made me dizzy but that may a fabricated memory! The sweet ones have a nice taste. I walk past paan shops very regularly but haven't tried one yet. I may just do and post my experience hehehe.

Despite what you've posted I don't see an issue if somebody has a paan once a week (max), as long as it's not a serious addiction and everyday thing.

    paan, peter paan

    LOL.

Some Bengalis do Tahreef in Surah al-Rahman as well.

You mean the slimy red sauces they put in the Paan? They are the most detrimental to a person's gums and teeth...

I very rarely chew a sweet Paan. And no it does not have tobacco in it! But never ever have tried the tobacco one.

Many Hanafi/Deo scholars here do not even consider smoking Haraam. Paan(tobacco one) has always been considered less harmful than smoking.

    Point is:

Many Indian Sub scholars eat Paan, which is why they cannot pass the fatwa of Tahreem.

I am not talking about minnows; I say this having observed major scholars from there

In Whitechapel they give paan and the bettlenut with the other stuff after a meal, how Bangladeshi can a place in England get?!

I went to a masjid once where majority of the musallis where BDi (Bangladeshi) it had a tangy stench to it! It may have just been one person eating the stuff but the whole room smelt. I think they don't allow it anymore.

Paan should be come with a health warning like the cigarette boxes have, 'Did you know eating paan makes people like you less?'....or something like that.
