In this week’s Deen Foundations (Sat 26 May 7:15pm) class principle 10 of the twenty principles will be covered, Insha’Allah. This is one of the most important principle for everyone to learn and understand as it deals with the attributes of Allah and how to understand them. We have a special guest teacher this week, Imam Mustafa Umar (USA). Join us at this week’s Newham Halaqah.

10- Most lofty beliefs of Islam

“Knowing Allah (Exalted be He), believing in His Oneness and declaring His perfection are the most sublime beliefs of Islam. We believe in the Quranic verses and authentic hadiths which describe the exalted attributes of Allah, as well as other mutashābih texts (i.e. which are not clear on their own), without interpreting or negating any of them. We stand aloof from the differences which exist among the scholars concerning these verses; it is enough for us to adopt the attitude of the Prophet (saws) and his companions: “And those firmly grounded in knowledge say: ‘We believe in it; the whole of it is from our Lord’…” (Qur’an 3:7)
    Main points:

    • The issue of Allah’s names and attributes
    • Opinions of Islamic groups and sects concerning them
    • The approach of the Salaf, which we adopt
