I stayed up all night last night reading ibn Daqiq al-Id's Sharh of Umdat al-Ahkam for a final exam. What a genius! The advocates of "Fiqh al-Hadith" or "Salafi Fiqh" ashould all have to read this masterful work to appreciate the depth of Fiqh. Ibn Daqiq al-Id was a great Shafi'i jurist and his work is one of the most profound ever written in Fiqh al-Hadith. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: "May Allah brighten the face of a man who hears my words, learns them, and conveys them as he heard them. And perhaps the carrier of Fiqh is not a Faqih." Something to ponder over.
