    asSalamu 'Alaykum,

Where can I find à good recitation with Qiraa'at Warsh? Our Imam is from al-Maghrib al-'Arabi and I find his recitation very beautiful, may Allah preserve him.

I hope one day we will see a Qaari' Warsh in Mekkah or al-Madinah.

Sheikh Sufi is amazing. He apparently knows all 10 Qira'at.

NOTE- the ones you have posted above are not Warsh, but Khalaf Qirat.
  5. I have on my MP3 'Abdul Baasit's Warsh recitation of the Qur'aan. That is the transmission that I like to learn and recite.

This link has downloads for the entire Qur'aan in Warsh as well as other Qaree's and riwaayaat as well:

All the recitations of Warsh are good!

If you can find Sahl bin Yaaseen's recitation in Warsh you may enjoy it. I do! It is very nice. Unfortunately I don't have a link. Perhaps a torrent somewhere may be the answer.

High quality recordings of Warsh are rarer though.

Is riwayat Khalaf 'an Hamzah the riwayat of Somalia?

'Abd ar-Rashid Sufi is from Somalia.

No. In Somalia, they mainly read Doury 'an Abi 'Amr.
  14. Nope. In Somalia the first Qira'at that students learn is Warsh and then the student would proceed. Lately, ( last 20-30 yrs) due to the 'wahhabi' invasion in Somalia, many Qur'anic Schools have switched to Hafs. Due to the Students thinking that Warsh was unauthentic/ Innovation.

Shaykh Hassaan Hussein explains this in his Sharh of Abuu Shujaa3 ( as if he is regretting what they did).

Bro, I asked a Somali guy 40 years old, he was always speaking to me that it was Al-Douri. One time he wen to Somalia and I asked him a muShaf, he brougth it to me without a problem since you find it easily there.

Maybe it's 50-50 with warsh, depending of the region, Allahu a'lam.

Could you please bring me the quote of Hassan Hussein? I am really interested. Personaly, I completely hate the fact that people let all the riwaaya and all study HafS. Most Tullaab Al-'Ilm should strive to make sure his first and main riwaaya is something else than HafS, because warsh, qaloun and everything else is going to disappear and become something only some specialist Qurraa- know. That would be sad.

  17. Bismillah,

A small Bio of the Shaykh:

Sheikh Abdirashid Sheikh Ali Sufi [Top]

Sheikh Abdirashid Sh. Ali Sufi finished his earlier Islamic education in Mogadishu, Somalia under his father, who was a well known sheikh among Somalis. He learned from his father two Qira. Afterwards, He went to Cairo, Egypt, where he attended Institute of Qur’anic recitation and received his diploma for Qur’anic recitation. After he received his diploma, he was awarded with two awards of Qira’at.

Sh. Ali Sufi became a teacher of Qur’anic recitation at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt. Since 1991, he served as the imam of Masjid Anas bin Malik in Doha, Qatar. Sheikh Abdirashid is a Qari, and one of the popular sheikhs in Somalia, and many parts of the world. His father, Sheikh Sufi was the first person who revived the “Tajweed” recitation in Somalia.

( I copied it from a Somali Site, I might add to it and make it more accurate in the future).

the Shaykhs website: http://www.abdulrashid.net/ ( Arabic).

    Bro Pluma,

Maybe so. The Shaykh said it in a recorded tape, not a book. As you know Somalia was Ash'ari in aqeedah ( the Scholars of that land, for the Awwaam are always on the aqeedah of the Salaf). And the Madhab of the Land was the Shafi'i Madhab. When many students of knowledge went to study in the khaleej under Salafi Scholars or atleast attended some halaqaat. When they came back to their land, they came with Fatwas making the known view in the land as bid'ah, including the Qiraa'ah Warsh, that Talafudh of Niyyah breaks the Wudhuu and many more that caused fitna. For they neither studied the Hanbali madhab, but only got the gist ( if you know what I mean). They also didn't know the evidences of the Shafi'i Madhab. And Salafi Shabaab are known for their enthusiasm in defending the Sunnah. This is what the Shaykh says regretfully.

Shaykh Abdurashid Sufi says that his father told him that before 200 yrs, every single haafidh who wamted to teach Qur'an in Somalia had to study Shaatibiyya along with it's Sharh ( written by another Somali Shaykh) and Laamiyatul Af3aal ( Obviously Nahw must have been mastered). But, due to western influence and enduring 5 colonisations by the Kuffaar. There was no Qur'an teacher who knew basic tajweed 50 yrs ago, untill Shaykh Abdirashid's Father came and revived the forgotten art of Qur'anic Tajweed and Ilm al Qiraa't.

How on earth could " wahabi's" wipe out a qira'ah from a country? was the government wahabi or were the warlords wahabi's?

and which recognized scholar from the gulf issued a fatwa that reciting in warsh is a bid'ah?

The way these sufi's lie its as if they are on commission.

Ibn Saeed Arabic = Key to Knowledge

  20. I didn't say it was wiped out. But, Hafs became the mashuur qiraa't. And calling me a Sufi is one thing and accusing me of lying yet another.

And there were no Shuyuukh, for I clearly said that they were Shabaab and it was quite a long time ago, when there were no government nor any warlords.

    Fi Amani Allah.
